Seal organization
With a nice four day weekend I got to have this weekend, I was able to spend some quality time with my daughter AND get a few things taken care of in the garage.
Something that I've been wanting to do for a while now is come up with a way to organize the seals during a rebuild. The Mazda factory seal boxes are nice, but at $100 on a box, it seems a bit overkill. I use a nice metal workbench that I got at an auction for $25 for engine builds.... it has a nice pull out drawer that for a while was used as storage for misc parts and junk but I'm getting ORGANIZED finally. I took the idea from the Mazda factory seal box and made this: http://www.findtuners.com/FCProject/sealdrawer.jpg I'm working on organizing rotors, bearings, etc as well to keep engine parts separated based on generation/type as well. The drawer has enough room to hold about 9 rotors, all bearings, all seals and dowels, etc. Just thought I'd share the idea and I'm curious what others have done to organize seals during a build... |
Pizza box and a sharpie works for me in a pinch ;)
I RARELY re-use seals, so it's a non event for me. i just lable them after they've beed fit and then I stack the short block, so I'm not storing them for very long. But if I were, that would be a good way to do it. |
Well.. U know how long I take on things lol...
Also.. Thus way I can clearance everything and drop it where it goes and come back the next day or so to stack.. |
See my avatar.
Or ill keep the seals on the rotor with help of rubber bands. |
I made a really nice one out of a cigar box and some paint stirrer sticks, I'll take a pic of it and post it up super simple to make and only cost a few bucks.

I used cigar boxes too, but no dividers, lol... didn't prove very useful for me :)
I like the diagram of the rotor.. I know another builder who uses drawings on cardboard ;) |

Shouldn't you be driving the 9 hours back here instead of surfing the web? Hope all went well today...
