Stock FC front airdam install

Just thought I'd share, as I really like the result. Finally broke down and purchased one of those stock FC front chin spoilers from Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. My FC never had one, at least since I owned it. Anyway, the piece came prepainted in stock Brilliant Black, to match my car, and even included a handy instruction sheet that makes installation idiot proof. Apparently these came as a dealer installed option back in the day. It's made of a flexible ureathane (just like the FC bumpers), so it should be reasonably tolerant of the an occasional scrape and won't shatter like a fiberglass or CF piece might. Here's a picture of the completed install and the instruction sheet:

Installation was super easy, the only catch was that you need to reuse the existing bolts and U-clip nuts, and you might find that some are rusted beyond further use. No big deal, I was able to find what I needed at the local Pep Boys & Lowes to replace the few trashed ones I had.

looks good. I wish I had a S5 bumper

Thanks. They made an S4 version that would work for your bumper - don't know if the S4 ones are still available though. According to Ray, the one I purchased was among the last four S5 parts still in Mazda's inventory.

How much did it cost From Malloy Mazda? Interested myself.

Pete_89T2 06-11-2012 07:36 PM

$384.49 which beats what Mazdatrix sells them for by about $15. Shipping won't be cheap, due to the size & odd shape of the box, but I was traveling to northern VA and arranged to stop by Malloy to pick mine up for free :)

Looks AWESOME!

Do you have a part number by any chance?

I'm at work, so I don't have the Mazda part # handy, but if you go to the Mazdatrix website and look it up. The part numbers they list can be "decoded" into Mazda part numbers by just transposing the order of the part number groups. Here's how:

The Mazda syntax is XXXX-YY-ZZZZ, where the X's represent a 4 digit alphanumeric code (e.g. say FC03 or 8462), the Y's are always a 2 digit number, and the Z's typically represent a 3 digit number followed by a revision letter (e.g., 290A). If there's no revision letter, it will be just a 3 digit number. In the case of painted body parts like this one, they also tack on the 2 letter paint code at the end, so in my case it would be the code for Brilliant Black.
