New NGK BUR7EQ / BUR9EQ Spark Plugs

This might be old news for some of you...

I never realized that NGK redesigned these plugs recently?

It looks like there's a really minor difference in "reach" spec...
Also, the center electrode matterial has been changed?

The BIG difference is the with the "semi surface" tip to a regular, single electrode tip?

These what Mazda recommends for the RX-8 now?

Haven't noticed a thing, I'm getting set of 7s soon. I'll check to see if they're any different from the last set.

FC Zach 02-06-2013 11:42 AM

That's if I get a newly manufactured set of course.

Are you saying they look like this?

That is a picture of the RX-8 spec Leading Plug (RE7C-L).

If so, that's weird since their catalog shows the old (ie: 'normal') style plug.

Actually that would likely be the RX-8 Trailing plug ;)

djmtsu 02-06-2013 06:02 PM

If that is the case, NGK is using the same picture for both leading and trailing plugs.

I have a set of NGK RX-8 plugs in the garage, but I'm too lazy to go check :-)

TitaniumTT 02-06-2013 07:22 PM

I just bought two sets of BUR9EQ's and a set of whatever the colder plug for the 8 is..... lemme go check and see....

Pete_89T2 02-06-2013 07:29 PM

I just ordered a set of NGK BUR7EQP/BUR9EQP's from Rockauto, I'll let you know what they look like when I get them.

TitaniumTT 02-06-2013 07:45 PM

That's where I got mine from.... Oddly enough, they are the cheapest....

TitaniumTT 02-06-2013 07:48 PM

RX8 ones look like RX8 plugs, BUR9EQ's look like they always have :dunno:

It looks like the 9's haven't changed as much as the 7's?
The reach spec has changed...
Better for us?

BTW, the "old" 7's and 9's are listed "N/A" from Summit.

That's odd.

This link has a generic image:

I would trust things from the manufacturer more than from Summit, they could've messed a few things up when they copied and pasted the info.... I dunno, I'm kinda want to see a new one next to an old one....

Pete_89T2 02-09-2013 01:13 PM

I just got mine from rock auto yesterday. No changes from the old style, but the box had the same part # (5255 and 4764) as the old style too, so no changes expected.
