DTSS - Ignore or ditch

As you may well know, I'm redoing my suspension system. I'm planning on redoing the rubber which includes the DTSS.

I have two options due to money:
1. Keep what's on there which is 22 years old
2. Replace it with regular bushings (DTSS eliminators)

Any input on what would be better for someone looking for a nice handling car for places like the Dragon?

I had the DTSS eliminators on my old 91, and they are good for controlled slides, but actually take away from the grip of the rear suspension. The 90 I have now has good working DTSS and I love it, works great.

One thing I noticed. When I had staggered fit wheels and tires (255 out back and 225's up front) the DTSS essentially did not function. The wide rear tires were forcing the rear to keep a straight path, overpowering the smaller front tires.

Once I put the BBS's and 225's all around, I noticed the DTSS return, and I missed it!

Hmmmm, I like the concept of the DTSS system. I wonder if it's still working though. :o11:

Use the FSM to check them, I think it shows a way to do it without driving the car.

Mine still works on my '88. I love it :) Go take a long sweeping corner like a cloverleaf off ramp at a reasonably good speed (not too fast obviously, 40-50mph does it for me) and hold the inside line. When it feels like the backend is sliding out but you still have traction... that's the DTSS working.

I love it but it scares the shit out of me every time initially. (I always start to countersteer into it then realize what it is.)

What is this DTSS you speak of? jk. jk.

If it aint broke don't fix it. I'm one of the weird ones that might actually replace them with the stock ones if mine ever break. Low speed stability/maneuverability wins in my book. You get used to it.

well uhhh 04-24-2008 02:41 PM

DTSS Scares the shit out of me everytime, i cant help it. it just doesn't feel safe to me. just my .02

it was MADE for safety. If you don't feel safe then you're not driving right or the DTSS is broken.

I wish I had better visuals:
