Transmission question
Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the N/A and Turbo-II transmissions? Previous owner of my car did a pretty frankenstein build and I'm not sure which it has in it and it's about time to finally get it replaced.

^What he said. T2 trans has a ribbed gear case housing, N/A trannies are smooth case. This diagram from the FSM shows what the T2 tranny looks like:

Hope that helps.

No Problemo
Thanks Pete! |
Be careful...
It seems to be pretty consistent for US-spec models, but we've come across "smooth case" J-spec turbo transmissions... To guarantee NA versus turbo, check to see if you have either an integrated bell housing, or if the bell housing can be separated. turbo - bell housing can be removed non-turbo - bell housing is integrated with the gear(box) housing -Ted |
