NA SemiPP 20b

Looking for a new eshaft. The original one is out of alignment, and in such a way that it cannot be straightened. This will not effect it's use, but the RPM limit has been limited to 8500 RPMs by Rick Engman. That doesn't work for the NA plans, so I need to find a new one.

Should be cool if this gets finished. You plan on passing emissions with this setup?

You have a target completion time frame.

reddozen 03-06-2017 03:23 PM

That's why we're keeping the stock ECU. If you turn off all the codes (AP, Mazda Edit or Racing Beat flash), and allow all the readiness checks to set, it should pass.

I have no clue on the time table... it's really up to all the hands it has to exchange, and just how far over budget it goes...

Best case... I would say September?

Sweet man, look forward to seeing this completed!

I set my goal for 6 months too, its now turned into 3 years lol. Be ready for setbacks along the way.

Believe me I know. We'll see where things fall. September is an absolute best case scenario. Things never work out for me quite so nicely.. lol

Do I have to be the asshole?

And some not even by your own doing. Projects like that are never going to be top's on a shops list because they aren't money makers. They are in the sense that they're rolling advertisements, but the amount of time that fabrication takes and the amount that actually gets billed are two totally different numbers.

At Speed1 we would rather do engine jobs and dyno's all fucking day than the big project cars for the money, but the reality is if you can pull two blown REW's before lunch and bill 18.4 hours for it, you're gonna make a shit ton of money. But when you spend two days building an exhaust system, you're not actually going to bill 18 hours for it. Even if you do, you're still paying someone 18 hours and billing 18 hours, where if you can R&R an engine in a day, you'll pay someone 9 hours and bill 18.... so shops generally let the big projects sit until shit gets slow.....

Just my experience

Speaking from experience with the AP on my Speed3.... it doesn't let the readiness codes set. It masks the CEL but when they check at the emissions place it will say not ready and they will say "Did you disconnect your battery recently? You probably just need to complete your drive cycle."

Example:

I had the EGR removed and cat... EGR and cat both still said "not ready" after a full tune on the AP. You are allowed 1 not ready though.

reddozen 03-08-2017 10:28 AM

AP for the RX8 still allows for readiness checks to be set normally. I reset my stuff all the time. I have all the cat codes turned off and pass emissions every time. So none of that concerns me having dealt with the bridge port for years.

I think the RX8 only set the not ready if it receives a mill code, but since it can't throw it, it always sets ready. My only not set check is the air pump. I may have a circuit made to fool that one.

You're not the first person I've heard about that from with the speed3.

Different protocols for the ECM.

I'm STILL waiting for that Christopher W guy to get his 20B FC going...

Granted, he has the engine in the car, but I bagged on him like TWENTY YEARS AGO on the Evil Forum...
