1988 Turbo II money pit
I bought it in Moorseville, NC for $3k..
http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...h_000_0020.jpg picture that but with stock S4 TII wheels It was sad condition, i probably paid too much. but it came with these mods: Racing Beat 3" turbo back exhaust K&N intake, 3" tid Throttle body mod Ported intake manifold Emissions removed/simplified vacuum lines S5 turbo Blitz turbo timer Rtek 1.7 SAFC II 720cc secondaries Walbro 255 fuel pump Greddy Type S BOV ACT lightweight flywheel ACT S/S clutch and HD PP i fixed a bunch of small stuff, did all the regular maintainence, flushed all the fuilds, redline gear oil, etc First thing was I swapped all the S5 exterior parts from my wrecked GXL, including S5 TII wheels. so it looked like this http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...I/100_0016.jpg then one night it got broken into, and the stereo, SAFC, and turbo timer all got ripped out. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...I/100_0001.jpg and thats when i decided to do some upgrades.. 20x9" ebay FMIC http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...l/100_0535.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...I/100_0207.jpg Rtek 2.0 http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...k/100_1042.jpg and installed new 750cc and 1000cc injectors from RC engineering and an AEM UEGO wideband o2 I had it dynod on this setup and it made 250whp, 6psi@redline http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...dyno_apr07.jpg next, finally upgraded to a BNR stage 3 turbo, and a greddy profec II EBC http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...nrturbo007.jpg It was about this time, a coolant seal started to let go. still competely driveable, but i have to top of the coolant after every drive. Anway, i still took it to a dyno again to see what the BNR was at.. it made 307 whp with this setup, 12psi http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...o1_3_10_08.jpg It ran kinda lean up top, the rtek was maxed, and the injectors were at 90% duty cycle. I upgraded the 1000's to 1600's, but havent been back to the dyno since Tein flex coilovers http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...II/tein006.jpg and new slotted rotors/pads all around.. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1.../brakes009.jpg I also got a spare S4 TII engine rebuilt with a mild streetport http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...II/tein001.jpg the latest mod is TII sideskirts and front lip http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...h/DSC00124.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...I/100_2148.jpg and thats how it is now.. Ive been thinking about ditching the rtek for a haltech, since staging the 1600s has been troublesome, so that is probably my next mod. I like the power where it is now, so i think most of the engine upgrades are done. Next up is body work and paint and swapping the new motor in thanks for looking :icon_tup: |
very sweet. Good job. So, you have the Rtek AND SAFC?
|
no that was just what was done when i bought it
heres the current mod list Racing Beat 3" turbo back exhaust Autozone intake with cold air box Throttle body mod Ported intake manifold Emissions removed/simplified vacuum lines BNR S5 Stage 3 turbo Greddy Profec II EBC (9 psi low boost, 15 psi high) 20"x9" FMIC, 2.5" piping RTEK 2.1 ECU RC Engineering 750cc primary injectors, 1600cc secondary Walbro 255 fuel pump Greddy Type S BOV AEM UEGO wideband O2 ACT lightweight flywheel ACT M/M clutch disc, heavy duty pressure plate Tein Flex coilovers Slotted rotors S5 TII wheels (16x7) |
307whp at 12 psi? Maybe 350 at full 15psi???
` Looks great. |
Is that a JVC DVD capable head unit? It looks identical to the one I have in the 'vert.
|
Very nice. I wish Rtek had the 2.0 for us S5 owners. I would rather not go through the hassle of a standalone, and PowerFC's are getting pricey.
|
You know you want a Microtech DJ :D
|
thanks for the comments! the head unit is just a cd player, i like it i have a similar model in my subaru also
update.. i recently acquired a haltech e6k, started pulling the old harness today. yay no more AFM and already sold the rtek, they go like hotcakes |
money pit indeed. Nice job with the build.
|
nice FC, was behind you during the midnight run through the gap this year - car goes along pretty nice!!
Keep it up! |
I have the Haltech installed and tuned, it runs so much better. the afrs in boost are steady as a rock, apparently the AFM just plain sucks when running more boost, its way to flaky
OK so last week the clutch finally got so bad i finally decided to pull the engine.. empty engine bay.. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ld1/act008.jpg ACT HD PP was shot to hell http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ld1/act004.jpg the flywheel was also shot, but its at the shop getting resurfaced.. pics of that later. New ACT pressure plate on the way. I also found out there was a worn out ebay clutch in there.. which lasted about 20k miles parts: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ld1/act016.jpg and the old engine: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ld1/act012.jpg im going to do some throttle body porting while im at it.. will post pics later |
Nice job - that pp looks like my old stocker from my FC a few years back. Good luck on the swap... it'll be nice to see the new #'s on the sp engine.
|
yeah me too, breakin period will be torture lol
new act pp and clutch and resurfaced flywheel http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1.../tbport005.jpg and here my tb porting, who knows if it will make any difference http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1.../tbport012.jpg |
