Suggestions on next upgrades?
Alright, so I recently received my brand spanking new Turbonetics 60 series turbo as well as the Raptor by-pass valve. I'm still going to be ordering a 35mm wastegate and some flanges and gaskets for it, but I'm thinking it's about time I start ordering some parts for the modification of the car while I have time and money on hand.
My delimma comes in with trying to maintain the vehicles operation during the week while still doing upgrades on it. (basically I can't be without a drive-able car for more than a weekend) Otherwise I would be sending out my ECU to be converted to an RTek 2.0, what I am thinking is doing the following and would like everyone's input on it: I plan on removing the stock bumper support since it's bent to hell and having an angle iron welded in at a different location (for added strength, with less occupied space). Throw some paint on it to keep it from rusting. Next I'd plan on removing the battery and replacing it with a red top and removing it to in cabin. This will give me more room to remove the stock radiator and throw in a new (bigger) one. I think I could accomplish all those in a day. Now I do not want to do a massive upgrade only to take it all out and apart again for when I pull the engine to do the turbo addition (I plan on painting the engine bay while it's out is the real reason--por-15), but simple things that I can do and not have to worry about. Any thoughts or suggestions? Alternates or ones I can do as well as those listed above would be parallel fuel alteration (but I can't upgrade the injectors yet), Rats nest removal, EGR delete, cat back exhaust (2.5" silencer and y-pipe, to some exhaust). which leads me to another question. My exduser exhaust exit is only 2.5" in Diameter. Should I just use that all the way down to the Y-pipe or should I increase it to 3"? (This is a 6-port Turbo project btw) |
Completed the battery re-location. I'll take some pictures of it soon to post up (here and in my build up thread). Quite a productive weekend. :)
I'm eyeballing radiators now and looking to figure out how I'm going to run the next round of upgrades. Should be quite enjoyable. That's for sure. |

Will do it when I pull the Engine. |
where'd you get the box?

advanced auto parts actually. They had all the parts I needed including the circuit breakers. total cost including the battery was around 200 bucks.

Umm, 2.5" exhaust with THAT turbo? Is your name fuckinnutz by any chance? :D
Also, how can the stock bumper support be "all bent to hell??? It's reinforced fiberglass thats bolted solidly to the car! Dont paint your stuff with POR 15 btw!!! There are better alternatives out there, that hold up better than this crap! Here's a site for example, their paint is SUPERIOR to por 15: http://www.eastwoodco.com/ http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...rID=412&KICKER Press the "+" on your keypad to view it larger btw, "-" to make it smaller again. (make sure num lock is on) Also, RTEK seems like a hell of a bargain, especially to megasquirt which is really hardcore for a beginner to setup as far as I heard... (dont quote me, through, lol) Why not just rent a car while performing major upgrades? I bet the better milage you will get with a rental car will outweigh the cost of running it in the first place! :D |
