'87 Turbo II - An ongoing waste of money!

In early 2008, i needed an new car to drive. And i made the choice to get back into driving a rotary as a daily. So i found this nice Turbo II on Ebay outside Detriot, Mi.

Here is how i sat when i picked it up.

Since i bought i haven't actually done too much more to it that just drive and enjoy it. Only things i have changed are the vert wheels and the exhaust i made (which is too loud IMO, probably going to add a muffler to it).

Look pretty nice. I wouldn't call a TII a waste of money though!! ;)

this car is going to actually become fun soon enough. Its been a loud, overly high idling slow bastard since i got it.

and when i say slow, i mean my friends FB with a 45 DCOE pulls on me on the freeway and pretty good.

Yeah, that shouldn't happen!!!

looks like a nice TII. Have any interior or engine pictures?

not really. But if you image a good condition gray cloth interior and a almost 100 percent stock engine bay with a turbo throwing oil around, you would have my car.

couple things came in today,

1. Block Off Plates from Rotary Resurrection. (Thanks to Kevin Landers' Ebay Store). Didn't get pictures since everyone knows what block off plates look like...

2. HKS Super Blow Off Valve and Greddy Compression tube (Thanks to SpooledUpRacing).

Everything less the compression tube is going on tonight (no front mount as of yet)

Pictures below:

So tonight was almost counterproductive.

Installed all the block off plates, but i left the vacuum spider because i didnt have any fuel line to extend to the rails. I also removed the thermowax.

Once i got everything hooked back up including the BOV, the car now has the throttle bodies sticking...

Spent a few hours tonight trying to clean the hell out of the TB but even though it seems to work in my hands, for one reason or anoter, its still sticking. The throttle body does have a decent amount of side to side play i do not remember any TB ever having...

So it turns out the end source of many of my problems was that the throttle body is FUBAR. Far too much side to side play is causing the plates to contact the throttle body thus causing them to get stuck. When i started playing with some things during the emissions removal, items i made it MUCH worse since my car now loves the 4 to 5k range.

A new TB is in route.

let me know how that bov sounds. i have one that has been laying around for years waiting to be tried out.

Whizbang 09-11-2008 07:47 AM

i actually got to drive it for about....a mile...and i really like it. It sounds good, not over bearing and not "lame" like 1/2 the ones i hear on Subarus and VWs

Whizbang 09-13-2008 12:29 PM

well the replacement throttle body is in! Just waiting for the JB Weld to dry completely on the secondary throttle plates since i removed the thermowax.

car fires up and and not longer revs to the moon! Had to make a longer idle set screw though since the full block off plate deal makes the idle way too low for what the stock thing can do.

Received my new muffler today, so the babies of the world can stop worrying about their ears bleeding.

Magnaflow. Stainless steel, and dimensionally its good for clearances, etc. The straight pipe thing had to come to an end.

Muffler installed! Sounds much better and now i actually can enjoy driving it. Its a good straight through design with lifetime warranty.
