exhaust setup ideas sa turbo car.
hey guys figured id ask this at the friendly site then devil site when all you get is :icon_bs: answers and rude comments.
since my sa is going to be off the road till i pay off my rx8, and no one wants to buy it with all the extras and re-speed parts put on it for a grand. i decied i will turbo it. i need advice on the exhaust setup. i was going to make my own manifold /down pipe. i was going to make the down pipe bolt in to the stock location as the rb header i have on the car now. ie where the header bolts to the mini silencer thing. do you think that would be to small of a restriction, i am going to be useing the garret to4b turbo i was including in the sale of my car. the reason i was going to do that since the silencer uses a stock hanging bracket. right now my car has the stock port rb setup on the car and its little to loud for my tastes. so if you guys dont think the silencer is to restrictive what should i do after that . |
Wait, so is the presilencer 2"? If so, that's way too tiny. You might be able to get away with 2.5", but I'd definitely want 3" with a T04B, and as straight-through as possible.
The Racing Beat exhaust system is too loud for you? Are you sure you don't have a huge exhaust leak or something? Because the RB system is super quiet. There are cars that are louder stock. Good luck getting an effective turbo exhaust system that quiet. |
turbos do act partially as a muffler, so that is one advantage. Make sure that any muffler you do invest in is stainless steel packing or another hi temp capable setup.

i looked under my car the mid pipe rusted a hole. which is odd, since when i put the system on i had it out and checked it. so that means from the time i put the system on my car to when i put it on the road it rusted a hole. about 4 weeks. i guess ill have to buy a new racing beat presilencer to work with it. any ideas on mufflers i should use with a turbo rotary.

i used some kinda of magnaflow that had what they said was "spun lava rock" or some crap. But it carries a lifetime warranty.

I'm going with a 3" RB universal presilencer and a Borla ProXS.
|
Why not the RB muffler for the first gen? Custom 3" DP, to 3" presilencer and the RB catback?
|
Because the RB muffler for the first-gen isn't 3". It's 2" or 2.375", depending on which version you get. If you mean to use the FC version, well, that won't work, because it has to go over the axle. You could always weld up something custom, but you'll have to do that either way.
|
How about the RB muffler and custom 2.5 or 3"? Will a 3" pipe work over the axle?
|
my job is a pipe bender so i could make it no problem. i wish i could figure out a side exit setup that wouldnt be too loud. any idea's are welcome.

I truly love the RB products because they are quiet while still allowing free-flow of exhaust.
