intermediate shaft
hey all..
i have a 93 rhd drive model and i need to pull the turbos to do the non sequential mod and i was curious on how to pull the intermediate shaft out?.. any special way to do it?... thanks in advance |
I'm not sure what you are referring to here?
|
the intermediate shaft is coonected to the steerign shaft and the other side is connected to the steering rack.. on the right hand drive cars it goes right between the turbos and the engine bay so theres no room to get anything out.

I assume it just bolts in similar to the LHD version.
Your first stop should have been the Mazda FSM! |
ive worked on this before in a RHD and yes they are a bitch
That steering column makes it damn near impossible to remove the turbos but it can be done without undoing the steering rack or the knuckle ( the piece that connects the steering column to the rack, i think the same thing you call a intermediate shaft) i found the hardest part was getting the oil drain pipes unbolted but you have to keep working on it cause removing the knuckle isnt necessary and will only require you to do an alignment when back together. But if you insist on removing it it loosens on both ends under the boot and can be slid up or down off one of the pinions then slid the other way off the other. hope that made sense. |
thanks man.. i apreciate that alot and i did look in the fsm and it didnt really say but thanks tho.. anyway.. you were saying there is a way you can get the turbos off without taking it out>?.. i couldnt even get the downpipe off.. how did you do it?..
thanks:) |
Missed the part about the RHD car. You could drop the subframe and let it hang by the control arms. That should give you enough room to loosen the bolt and slide the two parts of the steering shaft apart. I'm sure it can be done without but for some people it may be easier, especially if you lack experience and the right tools.
