2009 Track Day Information and Dates
I put this together when I was putting my 2009 schedule together and thought I’d post this so anyone interested has the track dates available here. I know I struggled to find track dates for the longest time. I think there is a large selection of tracks, companies, and dates to choose from below that should help some people… if nothing else other than the convenience of having the information consolidated here. Of course, I don’t get home until May so I didn’t put anything on my schedule until then. If you check the websites listed below, you will find other dates. Also, once again, I put this together for my season so all of the tracks listed are East Coast tracks mostly in the Southeast. Check out the websites for full list of dates.
A few comments about the companies… Chin Motorsports: I have done a track weekend with Chin Motorsports at VIR. It was absolutely great weekend. You get 3+ hours of driving a day. All the track time I could handle. Fritz was my instructor… enough said… he’s a rock star. They also kept a tight schedule the entire weekend which is something I can’t say for a lot of the other companies. The cost of Chin Motorsports is higher than most places, but that keeps out a lot of the riff raff and I will gladly pay a little extra for the quality of the event. Trackdaze: I have no experience with any of their events. I am going to try to make one or two of their events this year. I will say that their prices are cheaper than almost anyone and they have some type of savings program where the more events you do, the more you save. Mazda Driver’s: Recommended by DigDug and some other RX-7 track guys. They are supposedly the only company that has a track day on VIR’s Grand East Course, which is the 2nd largest course in North America. Suppose to be plenty of track time as well. It’s hard to go wrong at a Mazda event as well. 10/10ths Motorsports: I look forward to doing several events with 10/10ths this year. They feature many events at Bluegrass Motorsports Park which is a brand new 2.5 mile(soon to be 3.5) road course that is suppose to be incredible. They also have a several events at Putnam Park. Both of these tracks are relatively close to home for me so that is a big plus. Price isn’t bad at around $250 a day. Not to mention they have a “alumni program” you can sign up for that cost $45 that allows you to save 10% on every track day you do with them. Basically after 2 track days it has paid for itself. NASA: I just joined NASA to participate in their HPDE’s this year. I think the cost for a year membership is $45 a year which includes a subscription to Grassroots Motorsports. Majority of the HPDE are around $200 a day or less. A day generally consists of 3 20 minute sessions. Instructors are provided in the cost. I look forward to doing several of these events as well and watching some racing in between. SCCA: Very cost efficient PDX days. I think I’ve seen some regions have them as cheap as $100-150 a day. Can’t speak for everywhere else, but the southeast region seem to get plenty of track time. I know Alabama had one at TGPR last fall and Chris M said he got all the sessions he could handle. Redline Time Attacks: Saw they had an event at the Nashville Motor Speedway. Having an event that is an hour from my house… I’ll be there every time. They generally have an HPDE on Saturday and a Time Attack on Sunday. The rules for the street class have a pretty wide left and right limit to say the least which is pretty cool. Mazda also if offering a great contingency program for this time attack series. Well, my track season is starting to shape up. Dan and Brian are hard at work on the yellow FD, ordered my tires yesterday, and have confirmed a few events. Can't wait to get some seat time and hope to see you guys out there :icon_tup:
Mailed out my form for the Nashville Super Speedway for May 22-23 today. I'll be cutting it close on that one as far as getting home. I have a feeling that I'll be home, but I'll still be going through the 7 day reintegration process. That means I'll prob. get there around lunch time. Oh well, I'm sure the groups will be smaller then... and you still can't beat the price. Anyone else attending this one? It's a great price for anyone semi local not to mention it will be good practice for anyone wanting to run the Redline Time Attack there in July. I am paid and confirmed for Barber on May 30-31. The TT on Friday the 29th has been canceled though. Chris, you going to make it to this one? If I have my way, I'll be at Road Atlanta on June 1 as well. I have lost time from last summer to make up for :D I'm being promoted to Captain that day though, so I may have to be at work instead. I'm going to try to convince them to just do it the friday before, but the Army can be weird about stuff like that sometimes. June 6-7 is still up in the air between Putnam Park with 10/10th's or Bluegrass with NASA. I'm thinking I'm going to end up at Bluegrass since Putnam is only a 1 day event, plus I REALLY want to get on Bluegrass. I have also confirmed the Grand East Course at VIR on June 13-14. Lots of Mazda's out there. Patfat and DigDug will be there as well as several other 7 guys I'm sure. |
New date at Nashville Super Speedway: June 20
To sign up, go to: http://www.autosportevents.com/ I've signed up and will be there. |

Alright, no more rhymes. :) |
Registration just opened up for June 1 at Road Atlanta for Chin Motorsports.

Is the Redline Event being run in conjunction with Import Alliance again this year? Either way, I am willing to lend a hand on crew if you need it Brent, just let me know.
|
I think it is. I'm not real sure as I don't follow Import Alliance either. The car should be good, but the more rotarheads that come out the better. I usually have an EZ-UP tent and plenty of chairs so feel free to come and hang out. I may splurge and pay the extra $50 or whatever for a garage bay that weekend. I'm not really looking to be competitive... just looking to enjoy the seat time and have fun.

Sounds good. The bays are nice but not really necessary. And yeah, IA is a blast.

Anyone know of hotels in the vicinity of Bluegrass? I've found a Ramada Inn so far. Just want to see what else is out there. I also must say, you can save alot of $$$ using the choice hotels discount you receive for being an SCCA member I've booked my hotel for Barber and Road Atlanta for end of May/start of June.
|
Dang.. It it too late to sign up for one at Barbers?
I guess I should ask the wife first.. |
Nope, still plenty of time I'm sure Phil. Hope to see you there if the better half will let you :D

I'd like to make it out to barbers also!
What do I have to do to race in this event? |
