Transmission Whine

Ok heres the situation/story....everyone likes a good story right:)

My cars transmission is starting to whine like crazy in 1,2,3,5 no whine at all in 4th wierd I guess.
Ive tried a multi viscosity lubricant ...lol adding 80-90 wt 50/50 with regular trans fluid doesnt seem to help it just makes it a little harder to get in gear on very cold mornings.

Has anyone had any experience with after market products that help keep the whine down to a minimum? If so what products did you use?

The next time Dan Atkins sugest getting the turbo trans ...just do it.

Sounds like a bearing issue. In particular, the bearing that goes in the rear of the input shaft/ front of the output shaft. That's the only bearing that is totally stationary in 4th gear. 4th gear is 1:1, so the input/ouput shafts turn at equal speeds.
I don't know of anything that will quiet the noise, short of replacing the bad bearing. I do know it will only get worse the longer you run it.
This bearing can suffer from lack of lubrication if the vehicle is ever towed with the rear wheels on the ground without disconnecting the driveshaft.

I had it rebuilt a little over a year ago ...I doubt they replaced the bearings like they should have they probably just loaded it with trans quiet or something like that....it might just have to wait until i get some money up driving a truck

Could be a flywheel bearing?

how hard is it to replace the rear bearing?
where do you get it?
