Best kept Secret in Racing/Auto X: Mazda Motorsports

I know many of you are members of Mazda Motorsports, but I also know that a large majority have never even heard of it or know what it has to offer you... so here is how to become a member and what all they offer you!!

What's in it for you?
A: Mazda has a great program to support local racers. It offers stock parts at damn near cost(even cheaper than Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda who offers a great service to our community). It also offers the ability to purchase Mazda Motorsports Competition parts such as radiators, various bushings, suspension, GTC body accessories, as well as the 99spec aero parts(to include the coveted 99spec front bumper). They also have a contingency program that if you do well at certain races, Mazda will pay you!! Finally, you can get a S-Plan(I think that is the name) PIN and purchase new Mazda's at a predetermined dirt cheap price!!!

How do I join?
A: The first step is to buy a Mazda, hopefully a rotary. Once you have the car, you need to either join the SCCA(http://www.scca.com/home.aspx) or NASA(http://www.nasaproracing.com/). It can be a bit pricey, but is worth it in the long run.
The next step can go one of two ways. If it is the off season, you can email or fax pictures of your car you plan to race and your car club membership(SCCA or NASA) with you application found at www.mazdamotorsports.com to Mazda Motorsports and they will give you up to one year as a member to complete 2 races and send in the results before your account will go inactive. If you have already raced twice in the last year, all you have to do is fax or email in your official results with your application.
Once you submit all of your paperwork, Mazda should approve your membership within the next day or two and send you an email letting you know you are approved and have access to the website.
After that, start buying your parts and racing your car!!! I spend a absolutely ridiculous amount of money between my 2 FD's.

You can apply if you race autox? I didn't know that. Nice.

Brent 03-07-2008 10:13 PM

Yes, you can. All kinds of racing!!

Kentetsu 03-08-2008 11:12 PM

If you compete in two events per year then you qualify...

SJ_chameleon 03-09-2008 01:01 AM

I wish I had know that when I was more competitive. Do winter series events count because I know you don't get points for those events?

N3philum 07-09-2008 12:52 AM

what if you do racing that isnt sponsored by the SCCA or NASA?

P71 07-09-2008 07:29 AM

It still counts as long as results are posted showing your name and the car. My two events were PCA (Porsche Club of America) and they accepted.

N3philum 07-09-2008 07:52 AM

ok, i guess i should have been more specific. I attend monthly autox races on Okinawa Japan. The organization that hosts the events is not a United States recognized organization. If that fits.. then im in. :)

I think you may have to live in the US.

Kentetsu 07-14-2008 10:00 AM

I am not a member of SCCA or NASA, but I am a member of Mazdamotorsports. Being a member of either of those organizations is optional...

Before continuing there is some information you will need.

If you have already raced your Mazda:
You will need race results in your Mazda from within the past 12 months.

OR

If you are building your Mazda for racing:
If you are preparing your Mazda now, and intend to be racing within the next 12 months you will need

1. The estimate date of the first race you intend to compete in. (Within 12 months)
2. A Racing Club Membership Card - Any sanctioned racing club. (car clubs not included)
3. A Quality Photo of your car. (does not need to be in race trim)
:dunno: These are the options to register.

The results will need to list the club/org. name, event date, and have the drivers name, car make/model, and finishing position highlighted or underlined.

This reminds me, I need to send in updated results to keep my account active.

I haven't sent any since I registered over 3yrs ago and they haven't said anything. I'll send them in if they say anything or put my account on hold, but I figure why go through all the trouble to send them in if they don't care.

Signed up a while back and they were waiting on my membership card (I was undecided on NASA or SCCA) and I just signed up for NASA this weekend. I'll hopefully be buying parts within the next couple of weeks.

Yeah, I haven't sent any updated results in about 2 years now. My account still shows to be active, but I haven't needed to buy anything lately. I'd hate to need something, and hit a delay due to not having sent in results. Especially with my class championship for last season.....
