Dash Problems
Intrument Cluster won't work. Tach, Fuel Level, Amp, Temp, Check Engine, all those Guages won't work. Checked Fuses under dash and far as i can tell they are fine. Any Places i should start before tearing the Dash apart????
Also the Passenger Seat belt doesn't work no more, moved down when i open'd the door, but won't go back up. also the Clock up in the Warning Clutser IS on, but nothing else. i do know that my Ignition switch is messed up. bein as i can take the keys out while driving, or start/stop with ANYTHING thats flat lol. you think maybe the Dash isn't reading the Switch is on, but the motor is??? i dunno tryin to get ideas..... Mazda wants 280.00 for one and they are the cheapest. |
I am not sure if the ignition switch is directly causing this problem, but you know it is broken and needs to be fixed. I would start there, buying the part you know is broken, and installing it. If it still does not fix the instrument cluster, then at least you fixed something else that needed attention and can go from there. One thing you could try is to purchase a used "Steering column" with another switch+key on it, this will probably be cheaper than just getting the switch new. you can upgrade to tilt steering at the same time.

Instrument cluster not working is usually due to some idiot mucking up the wiring under there - if you're running an alarm or aftermarket stereo, this is not a surprise.
Automatic seatbelts? Take it to the Mazda dealer - there is a recall on them. Warning cluster not working? Common problem - cold solder joints needs to be redone. -Ted |
Check your "Meter" fuse. Even if it looks good it may not be good. Test it with a DMM (on Ohms). You could also replace the fuse and see what happens if you don't have a DMM (which I would hope you have one).

The Meter fuse is under the dash.
Here's diagrams if you don't have the cover. Taken from RX7club.com First attachment is S4, second is S5. |
the meter fuse is definatly the one thats gettin blown, and its now blown up to a 20a fuse, so its gotta be groundin out. tryin to figure out common places that wires ground out, or wear down.
