April 2009 Ride Of The Month - Proxy One (Winner of FD Month)!

April 2009 FD RCC of the Month Winner Interview

1994 Chaste White Rx7 with PEP Package

Q: Congratulations for winning Ride of the Month! Tell us about how you acquired this car?
A: Back in 1999 I had been looking for a new car for awhile and had settled on a few to look at. These being the 3000GT, 300ZX, Supra and the Rx7. I had friends at the time that had 1st gen rx7's and they loved them so I already had been leaning the way of the 7. I test drove some of the other cars and they just didnt do it for me and the supra's at the time were just way too expensive to consider. So the hunt began for a white FD. It took about 8 months til I finally found her. It had 42K miles on it and the owners had ever piece of paper that had ever been done to the car, I knew as soon as I saw it that it was the one.

Q: How did you first become interested in modified cars? Have you had any previously?
A: I had a 90 GST Eclipse that was my first car and my dad was always into cars as I was growing up. He had a 68 GT0, 75 Trans Am then a 86 Grand National(Now Mine), so I kinda grew up with it and have been interested with it ever since.

Q: Whats the biggest reason you chose a rotary powered car to modify?
A: I've always been interested in the unusual things, the rotary engine just seemed to me something special. Once I found out how it worked I had to own one.

Q: Is this car your daily driver? Do you participate in any form of racing? (Drag, Auto-X, etc)
A: I did daily drive the car for a few years while I lived in the city, but as the car got more modified I felt that it was time to get something I could put a ton of miles on and not feel bad about it. I do track the Rx7 a couple of times a year. I also have a 06 STi that is my daily that I auto-x and track too.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your car?
A: The feeling I get zipping through the mountains or hauling ass around a corner of my favorite track. Pure excitement.

Q: Do you have any future plans for the car, or any car?
A: I'm leaning to doing a single turbo upgrade over the winter this year, other than that not really much I feel needs to be done to the car to make it exactly as I want it.

Q: Any other hobbies besides cars?
A: I have a few other hobbies other than cars, mainly doing art work mostly graphic design and photography as these are what I do professionally too. I enjoy mixing records and making music also.
