blown apex wtf!!!???
I just bought a very clean 88 good shape yada yada 2day a swaped the old plugs out and did the water de-carbon trick and now it has a chatter @ low rpms but smoothes out after 2500rpms could i have blown a apex? or got some carbon stuck?? the motor had good power b4 and didnt seem weak??

Don't know people want to "decarbon" their engines.
It usually ends up blowing the engine up in the end. Did you do a quick&dirty compression test by pulling just the trailings and cranking the motor and listening to the *PSST*'s? -Ted |
re
no... but what causes the motor to blow from de-carboning??
|
it will loosen up the carbon,BUT it may take any Carbon that is Helping to make a Good seal on the engine.
you should check the Compression now. |

Check your ignition system, might have a cracked plug wire...etc. You could have gotten water on something under the hood and shorted something out etc. Bottom line is, check the vaccuum on the engine or pull out the plugs and listen to the consecutive chugs. If its chug,chug.....chug,chug......chug,chug then you threw a seal. |

Loosening the carbon chunks... How much miles on the engine? Engine mileage over 100k miles with the older 3-piece seals can have very thin "top" apex seal pieces - hard to explain unless you see the apex seal itself. A "chunk" of carbon can cause this top, thin piece to crack. This is why I'd rather prefer ATF, which actually dissolves the carbon over shoving water into the engine. I doubt the water affected the spark plugs unless you used enough water to hydrolock the engine. -Ted |
