boosting a 4-port na

My engine was not built for turbo, but I was wondering how much boost I could safely put on it? I'm just unhappy with the power lag from 3k to 7k rpms

5-7 psi is what I have seen run on N/A S4&5 engines. That is a "safe" #. I have seen others run 10+ also and not have issues. But They also had alot of fuel and ECU mods.

One can not answer the "how much boost" question until one knows which turbo you are wanting to use. Which turbo you use depends on how much power you want.

I've run 16 PSI on a totally stock internal 12a motor during tuning, and ran 13.5 PSI on the same motor as a daily for months after that. It comes down to proper fuel and spark tuning, really.

Ran 9 PSI daily with a Camden supercharger with my old-school 13B. No problems.

the engine is a 4-port 13b. I have a T II setup available to me but I want to stay carb'd. Will the stock ignition cause a problem? I am a mechanic but don't know anything about turbo except it makes the car faster.
