If you're not having functionality problems with them then I doubt anything's wrong. Also don't forget that different sized tires can be put on the same wheels, so 16" wheels could have tires mounted that give a 5" gap or no gap at all. Load, spring spacers, lowering strut tops, et cetera can all affect ride height, too. And as far as I know, struts aren't supposed to affect ride height.
