I guess most people go to 17's or bigger. I'd rather run a better tire in a slightly narrower size than pigeon hole myself into a spot where I can only get mediocre tires. Besides, maybe someone elses 225/50/16 is just as wide as a 245/45/16 ES100. Width is only a factor in making grip. A better tire in a narrower size can easily outperform a narrower, inferior tire.
Another option in that size in that sort of performance category would be the Fuzion ZRi, which has beaten the ES100 in Tire Rack testing and is also quite inexpensive.
