you should post in the appropriate forum for the generator car you are discussing. This is mostly engine related in here.

The speedometer reads, not the tach? Does the indicated speed on the speedometer change when you rev the engine? Is your drivetrain actually connected, or is it possible that your output shaft is actually turning?

What generation? If 1st or 2nd gen, the speedometer is cable-driven. I don't know about 3rd gen.
