I run a Centerforce Dual-Friction on my '87 Turbo, and I did not need any spacers.

Are you, by chance, trying to install a non-turbo clutch onto a turbo flywheel?

Turbo flywheel is flat.
Non-turbo flywheel has raised pedestals.

You cannot swap clutches between the two...
