and 2. it has high miles. like 166k high. however it doesnt smoke hardly at all. one of the mufflers has a hole in it and im assuming thats where the little smoke is from. cuz it only smokes from that side. my 87 had 125k and smoked like a siv. my question is, is that good, im hoping cuz i really dont want to change the engine out yet. hes giving me another block, supposedly rebuilt but i have no proof so i dont buy it. but hell its another engine. i was planning on doing a compression test when i get it. but i want a little reassurement from people who know that its p rolly got life left. eveything ive seen was if it dont really smoke even on startup your golden. at least i hope thats the case
1. Contact Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda 888-533-3400 (ask for parts department and ask for Ray). This guy is the human encyclopedia of RX7 parts and will be more than happy to help you out. Many people on the forums use him for parts.

2. It's going to be really hard to say at 166K miles what is causing the smoke. These motors do tend to smoke a little bit but if it's excessive and/or thick and white then you might have another problems. I'd perform a compression check and check your coolant for oil. If the water seal is gone then you will see some residue in the coolant and you should also see uniform low compression on all three rotor faces (if you have low compression on one of the rotors). Other then that it could be oil seals (blue smoke). As long as it's not smoking excessively I wouldn't worry about it.

If you ever want to rebuild the engine, or are considering it, feel free to shoot me a message and we'll discuss what you want to do.
