Personally when I had my 8, I used a generic ELM327 (tiny clear blue plastic) OBDII dongle *<$10* and my phone using an app such as torque *free or $5* (along with torquescan plugin *free*) to read codes. Torquescan lists everything the OBD reader can see.

It worked well enough for general diagnostic work (MAF values, temps, etc) and code clearing, even ran it on the dash for an HPDE or two. Not sure how deep you need to go :/ |
