Usually on customer FD's I strip it off the door, but leave it on the actual rocker panel....IMO its applied too far up. Taking it off the door leaves a smooth look to the side, but you still get protection underneath.

You don't.....you can scuff the paint on top of it with a scotch brite pad so you get in the nooks/crannys of the gravel gaurd, but thats about it. If you want to do it properly you strip it all off, do all your body work and apply fresh stuff over the primer just before paint, its designed to be painted right over
