The M2's were ball bearing if I remember correctly. They were an improvement over stock, but I don't think anyone ever really pushed them that hard. Fritz has had his hands on a couple of sets of the years. You might PM him and see what he thinks of them.

As far as the BNR's, they do require a y pipe modification(which Bryan does and is included in the price of the turbo's) for the newer version, but it does not have to be an efini y pipe. It can be a stock y pipe as well.
