My customer B.'s dyno tune (long)
I've been working on this customer's FC for a few months now, and we finally got the car on the dyno to tune...
Dyno is a Dynapack. (I normally use a 8% difference between DynoJet #'s.) Kouki FC (originally non-turbo) converted to full turbo drivetrain Rebuilt and ported 13BT Garrett 60-1, O-trim 0.96 A/R (yeah, small, but we got it at a good price) HKS cast turbo exhaust manifold Tial (44mm?) wastegate Custom 3" exhaust eBay 24" x 12" x 3" FMIC Haltech E8 Mallory HyFire 6A on leadings NGK BUR9EQ's in all 4 corners ![]() Car initially put down 267 on the initial tune at 12psi. (See lower lines on the pic.) This was done on 87 octane! (Car started to misfire after trying to lean it further than the current fuel maps.) This was done on the unmolested wastegate spring (although Tial rated the spring boost pressure @ 10psi; Dynapack actually showed 11.5psi). Notice how flat the torque graph is all the way to the 7k RPM redline! When we got the car back on the dyno the other day, we had confirmed we had 92 octane gasoline in the tank... I asked for a baseline run just to see what the car would do. Although I don't have that run in the pic, it peaked at 282hp! No changes on the Haltech - it picked up *15* hp, from 267. WOW. The owner had installed an A'PEXi AVC-R, so we started to crank the boost up... We set the EBC to 15psi... We broke 300hp - 302 was the actual number, I believe. We then cranked the boost up to 18psi - about the limit I'm comfortable with on 92 octane pump gasoline. That's the 321 lines in the graph. In the end, we gained 50+ hp and 50+ lb./ft tuning from 12psi to 18psi. My goals with this set-up was 300hp @ 15psi and 350hp @ 18psi. That's DynoJet #'s (which I am more familiar with), so @ 15psi was easily beat it. @ 18psi, it was dead on -> 321 + 8% = 346, DynoJet adjusted @ 15psi, 302 + 8% = 326, DynoJet adjusted I knew the O-trim turbine was going to choke the power a little, but I was pleasantly surprised how well it produced @ 12psi! The other surprise was the 15hp gain from just the octane change! -Ted Last edited by RETed; 05-04-2011 at 06:27 PM. |
