s5 jdm TII into 80SA?
I just got a JDM S5 TII motor for my SA I already acquired the subframe from the SE oil pan along with the front cover the motor came with the trany ECU engine wiring harnest AFM and so on. What else will I need to make this work I am just doing fairlly stock swap as far as other wiring goes what else do I need can I swap the tail end housing from an FB trany to the TII or just get another driveshaft made to fit. I have searched on the RX7club and all I oculd find is stuff so old that the link no longer work and once I posted the same thing there I was told to search more and my thread closed.
Any help is greatlly apreciated Mindaugas |

I have a GSL-SE with a S4 TII swap. I went just and had a custom 3" driveshaft made for about $250. As far as the front cover, you will need to tap the GSL-SE front cover for the oil return line. On the front cover, there is an impression on the passenger side where the oil return line would be on a TII. I went ahead and had the impression drilled out and threaded, then used a threaded to hose fitting and hooked a small piece of hose between the fitting and the factory return line on which I cut of the flange that usually bolts to the cover. Also, I know on a S4, the twin-scroll diaphram will not clear the crossmember and had to be deleted.

Personally, i'd get a custom shaft built. Its not that pricey and worth it if you get away w/ new u joints, etc.

thats what I figured as far as the drive shaft goes. one thing that kinda concernes me is I have a GSL rear end in the car and i am afraid that it might not be up to the task and break I am not planing on drag racing the car but as far as straction goes I have kosei k1 15" by 7" with 205 tires on them will that be too much traction I know it might sounds stupid fear to someone but I am just paranoid about it.

The fear of your rear end is legitimate. To be on the safe side I would rebuild it regardless of how many miles are on it, and when it is put back together I would use something like royal purple diff fluid.
If it is just making stock power or slightly more, I don't see why it wouldn't hold up. Obviously if you thrash the hell out of it, it will go out much quicker.

A stock S5 TII in a 1st gen will liquify 205's.
But, you shouldn't Drag launch unless you are at a dragstrip. At that point you should worry.

DJ is right. I am running 215/60-14s on mine and lauching at higher RPMs without slipping the clutch will result in alotta wheelspin, even more in a lighter SA I believe than mine does in a GSL-SE. And as far as the rear, I have a stock GSL-SE rear with 290k miles and a good bit of slop and I lauch at 4500rpms with 215 DRs and haven't had problems.

I am planing eventually to eather rebuild or get a SE rear end and build it I just dont think I need a ford rear end in there my top goal for the car is 300whp and no more. Inky reason for that I had a chance to experiance a 79SA that weighs in at a scant 1928lbs with 320whp wery little lag on the turbo and I mean that thing will scare the living crap out of you

Yeah, my will be around 280whp hopefully once my new setup is tuned in. I am actually getting ready to swap a GSL chunk into my SE case for better gas mileage and less shifts in the 1/8th.

JDM S4 with a streetport rebuild about 2000 miles on it, Microtech Standalone, Water/Meth Injection, and a Garret TO4B hybrid.

I am depating on street porting it or not I have crack the case open to change the oil seals I knew they were bad when I got it I saw the motor run and it ran good but then the oil seals gave out and it smoked like a frait train but I got one hell of a deal on it so I cant complain too much.
