media choices for cleaning the motor

I am purchasing a blasting cabinet for the sole purpose of cleaning motor parts (rotors, housings, plates, ect.) and other parts that should not be blasted with sand.

What have you guys used with success? Walnuts, glass, plastic?

It seems that if you want to be super safe go with baking soda, but walnut shells will work also. Glass seems to be iffy unless you give it a good cleaning.

However, this is all through research as I've never used media blasting.
