Red face K&N Typoon Intake 2- my review

After looking around for months for an intake system that sounds good or could possible gain anything i went with the K&N typoon 2. All i seemed to get from it was better gas milage (barely) and it has a cool sound too it. I dont think i wasted my money because i do feel a small difference. Im happy and it was and easy install.

I do have pictures posted on my photo album.

There really isn't a whole lot you can do intake wise from the after market that does any real increase in power, and those that do generally lower the mid range and add 1 to 2 horsepower up top. From everything I've read, the exhaust systems are essentially the same. Basically the only real reason people change them is for sound purposes. It is much nicer to actually be able to hear my exhaust now.

Having said that, you can add horsepower by doing custom intakes and exhausts - making them far more race oriented, but you'd still need a good tune as with any modification.

That intake does almost nothing, I was the first one in the country to get it.(I think)

It does give u a super raspy sound tho, HP wise not so much, and it will suck if you're stuck in traffic, your IAT will shoot up in seconds.

Only one that can gain something is Knight sports, Re-Amemiya, Racing Beat, AEM/Mazdaspeed

even those will give you no more than 5 hp on a good day.

stock intake is actually very well engineered and as long as you keep the stock intake manifold, there is really nothing much u can do.

u might as well save the money and buy a new stock paper filter and change it every 10K miles, or get K&N and clean it every 5K miles.

I don't know why every rx8 owner seems dissapointed that their car comes with an awesome intake stock.

factory intake flows great. just get a K&N filter, you will gain more from just that then getting a full CAI

the ones I said will give u the most gain, cuz they designed the intake with the right size piping.

K&N did it all wrong, Version I and Version II.

and forget about the other ones like Weapon-R garbage.

Well, bang for buck Stock intake is probably the best. I had K&N I and II, Mazdaspeed, and now I'm back to stock. the more u learn about the car, the more u will know what u should do/shouldn't do.

People like to mod things. Plus we have a culture that learned on commuter cars, were there WERE improvements to be had. They cannot comprehend the fact that Mazda may have actually had a good reason to pay those engineers money to design something right the first time. As a matter of fact, it has been stated in Mazdas official press releases that the designers favorite part of the power train was the intake system.

I had a Autozone parts air intake for my FC which I used for a little while. The car came with a K&N filter on it when I bought it. I was unaware untill I removed the airbox. I ended up putting that with the shorkel back on. The only reason I have a Air intake on there now is beacause of my aftermarket Rad.

Point: The FC OEM Air intake had great flow and that was back in the 80's. add 20 years of know how.

Some of the new models come with all the right toys already so when it comes to modding the car its for sound and looks, at least these days.
