I'm experiencing Malfuntions...

I have a 91' RX-7. When I sit in my driveway and Idle, she runs just fine. However, when I start to accelerate, she jerks forward and doesn't start. My Dad thinks that it's the fuel injector. I think it's the transmission. My friend, with a S-13, thinks it's the clutch. Can you guys help me out?

I'm also sorry if this is the wrong place to post my inquiry. I'm new. =]

Welcome!

We need a few more details concerning your car to be accurate enough to help you.

Is it turbo or NA? Are you stock or running any modifications? Have you done any work to it recently? Is it only the motions of the car that are the symptoms or is there a preliminary marker that dictates the problem is about to happen?

Can you rev it in nuetral? does it stumble and die on itself or can you reach 3k+? If you can't rev it in nuetral I would venture a guess to say that the clips connecting the injectors are either loose or on the wrong bank. But that's a shot in the dark without more details.

It's an N/A and everything is stock except for the motor. I believe that It's an 87' with a 91' motor. That's the only thing. Sorry about that >.< I'm just 15 Cut me some slack. =]

ok, check out the TPS. Look in the FSM link and scroll down until you see the TPS links I posted there. Test the TPS and get back to us. Looks like it's time for you to start testing parts to make sure they're within specs. Welcome to the club.

Which makes perfect sense. They are sacrificing safety either way. lol

FSM = Factory Service Manual = YOUR NEW BIBLE (BTW, if you had clicked on the link it would have explained all your questions)

TPS = Throttle Positioning Sensor

Once you click on FSM you'll go to another thread, in that thread you'll find this:
http://rotarycarclub.com/showpost.ph...51&postcount=7

READ BOTH LINKS AND THEN COME BACK AND ASK QUESTIONS. I'll be more than happy to help you but you must first read the info I provided.

Step one: learn by reading
Step two: experiment, try and see if you can do what the instructions tell you
Step three: ask questions.

If you don't have steps 1 and 2 I can't explain or go into details about step 3.

Welcome to the club and ask ask ask!!!

Jerk face!

it's really good advice, and if you can't get the answer you need from the FSM you can easily come back and ask questions. I'm a little miffed though on what your car is. It's an NA that was originally an S4 and some one swapped in an S5 motor? Hopefully they swapped in the ECU too.

It's highly unliely they swapped the ecu. You just run the s5 engine with s4 electronics, no big deal.

It really depends on what they have swapped though. If they didn't keep the electronics and they just swapped what was on the engine and hooked up the harness it will not bode well. Seems like this car has an unknown history and I'm just trying to get a full picture.

Well i'm just saying, i dont think ive heard of very many people swapping the body harness to use the S5 ECU.

S5 OMP is not mechanical and the 5th and 6th ports don't open via exhaust pressure. These are just 2 of the problems you get when you do the swap wrong and don't swap harness and ECU.

Not to mention the air-metering.

Good catch.

This car shouldn't even run and if it did it would die a horrible unlubricated death after a while.
