Problem diagnosing "wheres the burning oil coming from?"
ok guys i need some advice.
a while ago i noticed that my car started to burn oil (Yes before any one questions, i know for a fact it is oil not anything else.) so i took it for a little drive with a passenger to try to offer the best description of when and how its doing it. Also mods do not play a role so dont ask. first heres the symptoms: Burns oil on start up and continues on through past warmup. when driving it appears to be gone altogether. unless it is still warming up. once warmed and at idle it will continue to burn oil unless you push slightly on the throttle raising the rpms a little then it goes normal. once it settles back down to idle it begins to burn again. it almost appears to be intermittant. on and off but i notice it and i refuse to drive it while its like this. Now i have had some thoughts about diagnosing this as i believe it to be one of two things: Oil seals inside the turbos are going/gone OR Oil control rings inside the motor are going/gone. I have a spare set of known-to-be-blown twins here that ive thought about ripping the guts out of and filling all the oil/water holes with weld and blocking off the intake side of the bearings so as to allow me to start the car as NA. this would indicate that if the smoke goes away then it was the turbos and best just to replace them and if the smoke continues in the same fashion as before then i have narrowed it down to engine oil seals. But before i begin another round of wrenching on my car does anyone else have some relevant advice or similar experiences that they can share?
