Yokohama AVS ES100 Discontinued
I was very unhappy to hear that this tire was discontinued. I have been very pleased running a set of 245/45ZR/16 on my FD for 2 years+ this seems to be the best street tire for the $ and it handles like it is on rails.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=AVS+ES100 I was able to find a source that has 8 more of these tires left... I purchased 4 for less than $325 shipped last week! I almost purchased a second set but 2 years is a long time to store tires ![]()

Do you think the newer extreme performance street tires are too expensive and don't last long enough for the money?

es100's are shit.
they were marginal back in 04 when i had my last set.. federal 595's are the best bang for the buck nowadays. ~60 bucks a tire for 17's with a suprising amout of grip and resistance to heat (i wouldnt track them.. but still)

im on direzzas and i live in oregon lol
my experiance with es100: i had 235's all around and i could spin them in 2nd on an 86 NA with just an intake (not clutch dropping, just flooring it). a stock FC shouldnt be able to spin a good street tire in 1st. they may have changed compound since then, i dunno. that was 04..

You're asking for a beating against direzza's.
If I had a car worth running, I'd run you with Yokohama Advan Neova AD08's.

They don't even make the direzza's or Yokohama Advan Neova AD08's. in 245/45ZR/16's
The closest i see is 16" - 225/45R16 - 89W for $ 327.02 EACH

A co-worker of my dad's replaced ES100's on his 911 with Kumho SPT's and was nothing but happy with the change. They're a very inexpensive tire, but test well against other tires. I've ran them and was very happy with them, even on track. I'd reccomend them to anyone as a great budget high performance tire.

Still faced with the same issue, Kumho SPT's don't seem to come in a 245/45/16

Am I am the only one who runs 245's summer/street tires on a stock FD rim?

I guess most people go to 17's or bigger. I'd rather run a better tire in a slightly narrower size than pigeon hole myself into a spot where I can only get mediocre tires. Besides, maybe someone elses 225/50/16 is just as wide as a 245/45/16 ES100. Width is only a factor in making grip. A better tire in a narrower size can easily outperform a narrower, inferior tire.
Another option in that size in that sort of performance category would be the Fuzion ZRi, which has beaten the ES100 in Tire Rack testing and is also quite inexpensive. |

Well it's not too hard to see why they are discontinuing the tire. Apparently Kevin is the only person in America who needs it. Maybe you can get Yokohama to sell you their remaining stock in bulk so you can stockpile them in a closet.

I thought about it, they only have 8 tires left. It took me over 2 years to wear our my last set. Went to 2 DGRR's One BRRR one event at tgpr and at rotad atlanta drove about 10,000 miles around town. 2 years is a long time to store tires.
