Paint question
Posted this in new members forum. Repainting ny 1993 R1. Deciding what to do with the stone guard on the bottum. Assuming it's vinyl. If so does it come off easily? Should I keep it as the car is original except exhaust. Will removing it change the value of the car down the road? Thanks for your input. Darren

well, if you're looking for resale value then keep it the stock color. The reason isn't so much the VALUE of the car as a whole, it's the fact that when you go with a repaint you have to pay quite a bit of money to do it right. You'll never get that money back when you resell the car.
As far as the stone guard, I assume you're talking about the black lip on the FD. Remove it if you want and then reinstall it when you resell. It looks kinda weird without it though. http://www.rotarycarclub.com/showpos...6&postcount=27 Also, check the link "FSM" in my sig for info on the removal of the lip.

Keeping it the original color . The guard I'm referring to is all along the bottum 4 or 5 inches of the car down the side where the paint isn't smooth

I am not a fan of the rock guard and removed it on my silver car.

I never liked the rock guard. I had the body shop remove it when they painted my former silver fd. I don't understand why they put it there anyway. It looks ugly and the paint chips mostly on the bumper and hood anyway.

no, the rock guard is a 3-5in strip of textured paint on the FD that runs down the side of the car at the very bottom.

lol, I was confused and thought it was the lip too!
Yeah, that shit's hella ugly, so remove the textured paint, but keep it the same color!

Usually on customer FD's I strip it off the door, but leave it on the actual rocker panel....IMO its applied too far up. Taking it off the door leaves a smooth look to the side, but you still get protection underneath.
