97-04 passat shift boot replaces stock ($25)
Last year I purchased a leather shift boot for a 97-04 VW passat off of ebay for $25. I just pulled my old worn boot off the plastic ring and stretched the new one over it. Was a tight fit but worked out really nicely. Here's pics of right after the install. The scratched console area has since been redone also.
