Gas Tank HELP !!
1984 RX7 GSL-SE (Fuel Injected)
After a couple of track days and months of prep I finally got this LeMons project into a race. Car has been running like a bat out of hell but three laps into the race it died, fuel pump stopped. Took it out hooked it up to 12v and it was dead for sure. Found something with enough pressure and volume, replaced the filter and it ran for three laps, sputtered and died. The fuel tank has begun to disintegrate, varnish and all kinds of black crap, plugs up a filter in no time. Yes, we checked the damn relay, do not get into that, just a waste of time. So, I have been searching the web for a few hours looking for a new tank, can't find one. I would like a new one but I suppose I could use a cleaning and coating kit, or have a pro do it for me. The 24 Hours of LeMons prefers OEM style tanks and placement but I also could spend the bucks for a certified fuel cell. Ok, now is the time for all your opinions on tanks and fuel pumps. I will probably be setting it up with a large FRAM fuel filter with with replaceable cartridges. |
