				Oil pan leak

I can see that my oil pan is leaking on my '04 8. It only has 36K on it and started leaking back around 35k. I know FDs had this problem, but the 8? Is this common? I'm going to fix it w/ some new sealant and will probably stud the pan too just to be sure its secure and sealed. I wish somebody made a brace for the renesis... |

What are they using for the gasket material on the 8 any idea?

I took apart a renesis a few months ago... No gasket on the pan, just Mazda Grey sealant... which is basically permaseal grey. Mazda wants $49 a tube for their brand - permaseal is $9 a tube, lol... it might take 2 tubes - but still $18 vs $49... |

Follow up on this issue. I discovered the car also had a trans leak - and being that it was under warranty, I went ahead and had the stealership fix it. Oil pan was in fact leaking - they resealed it. The transmission's main housing gasket was leaking - they replaced it. I also had a new key cut and programmed so I'm good to go now... Just wanted to document this in case other 8 owners start experiencing the same thing. |

Mine was leaking a little when i bought it.. I actually talked to Garfinkle about this but when I posted on RX8 club and GA RX8 club, no one was interested.. Garfinkle wants at least 20 people to start a production. I have a spare one to send it to Gar and he's interested pending interest..

how different is the 8's oil pan vs the fd's oil pan? I've never looked at the differences on them.

I havent had one side-by-side, but the 8's pan seems to have a much more rigid rim and is baffled differently. Its also a lot shallower from what I can tell... As for the actual bolt pattern though, I'd be curious myself and see. I dont even have an extra 13B oil pan laying around from any gen to compare.. Phil bought my other 8 pan, lol. |

Sounds good.. If you could pass on the word and start a Group buy interest thread, that would be awesome! I could take some 8 vs FD pan difference and the brace Gar made for the FD. I'll try to do that tomorrow
