i've typically removed the PS pump from the engine while its still connected to the mounting bracket. to do so, you have to remove the A/C pump from the bracket. it has 4 bolts holding it, two on top, two on the bottom. If my memory serves me correct, you can pull three of them out and one you will not have the clearance with the frame rail to pull it completely out.

once those are removed, you can slide the A/C compressor out of the way and get to the 3-4 bolts holding the mounting bracket for the P/S pump.

I have never actually removed the pump from the bracket...
