If you have the injectors to run it, E85 should give you better torque than pump gas (you will need a lot more of it). E85 actually contains oxygen in the fuel, requiring less air per unit fuel, and allowing more energy to be released per engine revolution.
Obviously, the E85 advantage for a rotary is mostly in the turbocharged realm, as even a 9.7:1 rotary likes 87 octane just fine.
