Sounds like a good plan. As long as everything is able to be locked up and secured, sounds like you have everything you need.

Lots of people with Miatas, S2000's, FD's, Corvettes, etc have built tire trailers and there's lots of info out there. Make sure the box locks and make provisions for locking the tires up too. Make sure the tires can't move around when mounted and they may bounce around a bit, so strapping them down tightly is a good idea. You might want to do something to reduce the spring rate a bit, since you'll almost certainly have less weight on it. If it's a multi leaf spring, you can take some leafs out and it'll ride and track better. A spare tire for the trailer can come in handy and it's cheap insurance.
