No. Soft Face hammer and hit the flywheel @ 12, then 6,9,3,12,6,9,3,12,6,9,3 and keep giving it solid hits until it pops off. Make sure the flywheel nut is still on though otherwise you may hop away missing a toe or two.

I've never had an issue getting it off with a dead-blow hammer. Meaning a rubber mallet. Try a brass hammer, or a heavy ballpien against a piece of AL against the flywheel. Keep hitting..... pretty hard too.

Is this a one piece flywheel or an aftermkt flywheel with the auto counterweight?

Other project is somewhat in limbo. Waiting on a compressor to run the gun and DA.
Oh wait.....are you talking about my project or project86's?

hahaah Brian you do know i have been putting an air DA to cars for 2 years now right? I have a really nice Snap On DA and the compressor im buying will be plenty for it to work

But i just had a thought last night that i was chattin with haukbeeb about. My dad actually made me think about it.... im gonna rebuild my old engine and put it back in my car with a carb until its time for the super sweet other engine just so i can enjoy my car a little.

Im gonna buy some porting templates from pineappleracing.com and then i may buy a few porting tools from racing beat (unless someone can lend me some. I got the rotors cleaned up quite a bit yesterday and if all goes well im gonna have the irons hot tanked.

Then ill order a gasket and o ring kit from mazdatrix. i dont think it should cost me too much to do this and it will keep me happy till its time for the BIG project.

Hey man, I gotta 60 gal Cambel Hausfeld 13.5 hp air comp and after DA'ing for a while, it gets warm. Just a suggestion, though I bet the Snap-on DA you've got uses alot less CFM than the one I have.

Gotcha, makes sense. I've got too many cars and not enough time to enjoy any of them. Today was the perfect example. I had today off, as well as tomorrow and the weekend. I went in early this morning, got there @ 8 to do a bunch of side job/captaining stuff............. I just got home.... 13 hours later. Now I'll be busting ass all night
swapping a front knuckle - powdercoating it first
building a heat shield for the fuel cell
installing an amp
swapping rear ends
and washing, compounding, glazing and waxing the car. If I get on the rd by dawn I'll be happy. Otherwise, no dyno tomorrow......... again

Well thanks for the heads up on the DA thing. I just got my compressor today. Its only a 33 gallon but i wont be using the DA for extended periods of time back to back.

I hope i can get this engine back together with everything i need without having to spend toooo much money. i mean im not a cheap ass but things i need now that i can think of right off the bat:

Rad
Efan
Oil cooler
FPR
Carb and upper mani for it
All exhaust components
Distributor
Porting Templates/Tools
Gasket and oring kit

I still have my S5 stock Radiator I think. If so its yours. Also you can have the Holley pressure reg from the FB. I am not sure on the oil cooler though I will look.

Are you going NA or turbo (I am guessing NA with a carb setup)?

If so, I would not buy a template, or 'tools', just get a few carbide burrs from Summit or JEGs and clean the factory ports up a little, the Pineapple Racing templates are really too big for NA. I have an engine that was proted with them and they delay the intake closing WAY too much to make any NA torque below 8,000 RPM. This is a setback because you will need a pretty special intake manifold and really good runner flow to get air to the engine at that speed.

Seriously, just clean the stock port up a little and work with that. Your WHp, torque and drivability will thank you.

Pineapple racing templates are good for turbo applications as they lower the dynamic compression ratio, allowing you to run more boost.

Don't forget that the intake runners make as much difference in power and volumetric efficiency as the ports, the only difference being that properly sized runners don't kill your low end torque (although they hurt it a little) or your idle quality.

Yes NA. I just wanted to play around with my old engine so im not really too concerned with it right now. Its more of an experimental thing for me. I do appreciate the heads up though

I just wanna screw around until its time for the real project to begin and i thought that would be a good way to do it.

Also judging by some reading ive been doing i should ditch the 3pc apex seals for 2pc... but i dunno if i wanna spend another 300 or more for new apex seals when this is really just for shits and giggles. My seals look fine. I do need new eyelets for the corner seals though. and new corner seal springs.
