Hose routing questions : charcoal canister/purge valve

I was under the impression that the C-Canister was for start assist and to relieve pressure from the gas tank on hot days. If that's the case, hooking it up to the ventilation ports of the oil isn't going to work right... but then again, I may be mistaken.

I'd rather vent the gas fumes into a charcoal canister than under my hood. I've had a problem with an exhaust smell in the cabin for a while so I'm doing whatever I can to fix it.
