My RHD FC Build

5 Attachment(s)
Finally I got a RHD FC after the long search i picked up a 87 rolling chassis. Car came with a few extra goodies that I did and didn't know about. Some good some bad. However it wouldn't be a project otherwise, am I right. For the most part right now I will just be cleaning it up. The dirt from sitting, the grease and oil from the motor, trans and other area that would've leaked. Then replacing worn parts. So I will keep this updated as I go.

Anyway some of the goodies that came with the car are:
JDM FTPS
After market pedals that say RX-7
PROJECT MU pads
Cusco Brake Booster Bracket
JDM H4 housings w/ bulbs
S5 moldings (most of them)

Some of the bads:
missing some engine bay parts (besides the motor and trans)
found some minor body damage under the driverside headlight
Driverside mirror hook broken off
I believe thats it for now

what in the heck is a brake booster bracket?

FortyfiveD 12-03-2008 12:08 AM

It keeps the brake master from shifting during driving I test fit it tonight just to see how it fit I'll post pics of it tomorrow. I know it doesn't fit on the US car so I've never really seen one in action (so to speak).

i have heard of subaru guys having something similiar but i really can't get my mind around what they would really....do.

Just took pics right now got lucky with the flash on my camera. Hope this helps.

Whizbang 12-03-2008 12:21 AM

does a master cylinder really move that much?

FortyfiveD 12-03-2008 12:27 AM

I have no idea but since there no real modifying to do for it, I'm not super concerned at the moment if it will dramaticly make a difference. I'll just have to wait and see if it does anything once the car is up and going then I'll be able to give an answer to that. For the present it has that "oh it's shiny." quality.

did you get this from Japn2LA?
Looks familiar.
Nice FC for sure

Nice find.

The MC bracket is a useful one if you plan to drive the car hard, have upgraded brakes and really want to add everything you can to the braking system to make its "feel" and responsiveness top notch.

I plan on adding one to my FC as well. Its not that you can actually see the MC move, but remember, its simple physics, you push on the brake which moves the arm and the fluid pushes back. If you have air in the lines, it gets spongey because it compresses the air... the bracket is similar in that it reduces how much "give" will be in the MC. Should make the initial brake depression more responsive... wont do anything for actual brake fade, etc though, lol...

Keep us posted...

I actually got it from someone that did get it from Brian from Japan to LA. Thanks for that info WE3rx7.

Ok had the opportunity to do some more on the car and found a few not so fun things that need to be done. One I'm actually selling off the hood that is on the car and replacing it with the aluminum one off of my other FC. Finally getting that reverse vent I wanted. However I'm doing the S5 swap to the car and in order to do that I have to pull the old bumper and all. Easy right, wrong...every bolt I came across was completely overtaken by rust. Most sheered off others had to be grinded, some you couldn't even tell were bolts in the first place. So I decided to replace all the bolts with either new ones (if I can find them and I like them) or just using ones I can get from the junk yard. I'll take pictures when I get a moment. The second thing I came across was that one of the wheels wasn't straight when the steering wheel was completely straight. Turns out that the tie rod on the passenger side (driver to the US car) is damage so the wheel is out of alignment and out of place. Also it's missing the bracket for the sway bar so I have to find one of those as well.

WE3RX7 12-08-2008 09:14 PM

Yup - thats what happens, lol... probably doesnt help if it sat in at a customs boat yard for a while...

MaczPayne 12-08-2008 11:14 PM

Nice find, what are your plans with it?

Miata_mx5 12-09-2008 12:47 AM

I guess you could not hold out for long huh?

Congratulations, should be a badass car.

Fidelity101 12-09-2008 01:21 AM

see if a local performance shop has any importer vendors or junkyard vendors overseas, they might be able to locate that part for you.

FortyfiveD 12-09-2008 10:04 AM

Thanks Ganashi and Johnson. I'm going to do a daily with it but it will take awhile so it sadly won't make sevenstock next year. But I'm doing it right from the get go.

Max777 12-09-2008 10:42 AM

Wow, that is cool, man! Where do you live? I would be a bit worrried driving that thing and getting pulled. The bolt thing happens quite often with FC's, especially ones that havent had the front end taken apart in a while. My car is a 1991 S5 model, and had the same exact thing happen.

One other thing I will recommend NOT to do, is to mess with the wiring harnesses on the car. I tried to rewrap mine, and screwed up... Best thing to clean them would be to use NON CHLORINATED brake cleaner, which would get off the grime, and then dry itself out withought residue. The non chlorinated stuff is also better for paint and plastic than the normal stuff.

Good luck with the car, mate!

Duly noted, one of my roomates spilled beer all over my 360 controller and now the buttons are sticky and smells like stale beer :banghead:

FortyfiveD 12-09-2008 08:28 PM

*Ouch* tough break with the beer. Yeah the only thing I'm messing with wiring wise is the install of the Haltech I'm going to get (eventually of course). That and cleaning some of the terminals in the engine bay so that they conduct better.
