what kind of car is it? does it have any modifications? what exactly is it doing? the idle thing could be a loose vaccum. About the 4000 rpm it sounds like a transition problem since its happening arround where the secondaries kick in. my advices are check your compression on the engine and make sure you have compression on all faces on both rotors, check all your vaccum hoses and get you some starting fluid and carefully and without loosing your eyebrows!!! spray it arround your engine to check for leaks. You will know where the leak is at because the acceleration in the engine will change and run some nice thick ground cables from the shock towers to your engine to see if this help with your hessitation problem. not sure if available on this forum but do a search for 3500rpm hessitation and you'll find what your looking for.

Good luck
