Braille Batteries
Looking through Jegs and noticed these. Like the idea of less weight. Any thoughts or issues from anyone?

Don't.
Smaller size usually equals less capacity. There was a big trend before to run smaller batteries for less weight. (How many people can actually take advantage of the less weight???) These cars ends up on battery tenders and auxiliary chargers trying to keep the voltage levels up. The FC already has a SH*TTY alternator stock. I don't recommend compromising electrical capacity with this bad idea. A relocated battery would be a better idea and not sacrifice capacity. Do you really want to keep spending that kinda money replacing the battery every couple of years? Replacement batteries from Costco / WalMart are CHEAP. -Ted |

Yeah, while it may work on a Honda Civic no problem (I have seen a lot of them run Braille) with FC's all I hear is that it doesnt have enough capacity for a daily driver, wont stay charged well, and will loose its charge if you dont drive the car often enough.
There was an article in Grassroots Motorsports where they used a smaller battery on the miata during auto-x, but ended up swapping it out for the stock one to drive around, which kind of ruins the advantage you will get by using it. PS: I got an Optima Deep Cycle Yellow Top battery for my car. It's slightly smaller and slightly lighter, but not by much. So far this battery has been great to me, car never looses its charge, always cranks the starter in any weather, mounted in the stock location with 0% problems.

I have an Optima Redtop and love it but be warned...If you drain an Optima it takes a special charging procedure to ever get it to work and hold a charge again.

Thanks guys for the info! I was looking at the yellow tops and the price driffrence between the Brailles wasn't that much and they are listed close to the same specs of normal batteries. But I think I will go with a yellow top.

We would use the lightweight Braille Battery in competition only. We used it on our Time Attack Car and I always carried a portable jumper box to the grid. For a street car I would not recomend it.

Braille is also an overpriced re-badged Deka Powersports battery. You can get one for about 60 bucks.
There's a Deka sitting on my desk for about a year now, and I haven't installed it since I'm so satisfied with my Everstart.
