He has a spare truck to drive so he should be okay. Down time will come around in an rx7 so you def don't want it to be you're only source of transportation. I daily drove mine for 2 years, then blew the engine and it sat in a field for a long time. (poor car) now I have a deeper respect for how fragile they can be.

They aren't the most comfortable cars to daily drive, but the cool factor offsets all that. Especially when you first get the car, thats the greatest feeling in the world. I love my car, but it's too noisy and awkward to drive every single day, makes me kinda miss that stock quiet exhaust that just sounds like a massive suction noise. I love the all out power of my car, but there is something very appealing in the quiet and instant power delivery of the stock 7.
