Alot of new model trucks and certain longitudinal engine setups still use fan clutches because they are very reliable and require no outside control. Also, a big part of it has to do with how the engineers set up the engine accesory pulley and timing system. To use a fan clutch there has to be a strong mounting location for the fan such as a water pump, and not all cars have them front and center and at the right height to mount a fan. **Also, space can be a determining factor like in a FD... That setup (radiator mounting and intercooler) doesn't lend itself to using a fan clutch. Which came first? Losing the fan clutch? Or engine bay setup?... The world may never know.
