ugh...heater fan went out
Perfect time of year for the fan to stop blowing. Drove to my sister's for family thanksgiving and it worked. Drove home late that night and it did not work.
It wasn't giving any signs of problems. From what I've read it can be the fuse, the relay or the blower. It's not the heater core cause it does create ambient heat out of the vents that's still controlled by the logicon. I turn it to hot and ambient heat will rise out of the vents. Just no fan to push it. Time to read the FSM. One question. To replace the logicon do I need to remove the main speedo cluster to get to the harness plug? It's been a while since I messed with that stuff, but I do have a spare working logicon. I'd like to swap them and see what happens. |

Yes you have to pull the cluster to swap the logicon.
No you don't have to swap the logicon just yet. The blower will come down by itself. I'd drop that and start testing there, working my way back. Check power, check that the Logicon is sending the required signa, check grounds! I would do all that before pulling the logicon out.

I'll probably end up scavaging whatever parts I need from the car getting a rebuild. Once I know whats wrong I'll replace and put that part in the turbo vert. |

Problem fixed. I pulled the blower from the turbo vert and put it in the n/a.

There's 2 ways to replace the logicon. The first you go through where the instrument cluster is to get to the stupid plug by the windshield. The other way you can pull the dash piece by the windshield and grab it from there. Both suck about equally much.

Yup, I keep telling myself that I'm going to add a metri-pack or something inbetween that connector and the logicon, just never have...

Definitely a PITA x2. I replaced mine because the fan speed resistor went south and continued to where the fan eventually stopped working completely. I wrestling that for a day just to see later that night that none of the icons were illuminating! I'm still pissed about that and now I'm debating on whether I should remove it again to replace the bulbs or just carry a flashlight in the car.

I seem to remember needing to tie a string to the dash harness to keep it from falling behind the dash after unplugging the logicon? I swapped one years and years ago. I remember it being a PITA but don't remember the particulars of it.

It's smart to tie a string to it so when you pull the logicon out the string comes so you can drag the plug back upon reassembly.
