I wonder if any of your temperatures (IAT or oil) will go up slightly as a result of the mesh. It doesn't seem like much but it really does impede flow. There's a reason we don't have mesh screens in front of jet engines That being said I'm sure the peace-of-mind of knowing you won't put a rock through an oil cooler is probably worth a couple degrees.
