my son's gsl se

it's an 84 gsl se,that was converted to a carbed 12a.i traded my fc shell for the se shell with another ohio-rotaries member. the plan is to change it back to fuel injection. the engine that came out of my se will be going in it. i'll be somewhat restoring the car as i go through it. here are some pics of the progress.
the trade

at it's new home

my son working on his car

how it sits right now.ready to be cleaned and repainted black.

the front suspension ready to be disassembled, sand blasted and painted

the car will be resprayed in the green that comes on the mazda2.
the engine will be rebuilt and painted green and black(he picked the colors)
the rear underside and suspension will also be blasted and painted
the trans will be an fc trans.i'll update as it progresses.

I was gonna give my son my fc,till he asked me if I minded if he sold it to get a 1st gen. I traded it to a friend for this car and my son wanted to go with me to pick it up,but he had school. he loves the car,he's 14.

more progress has been made. I've finished disassembling the rest of the front of the car. the bay has been cleaned and ready to me to repair a few surface rust spots.

Looking good. I'm not sure I still have photos around, but I did a green/black engine in a black first gen about ten years ago. Glad your son likes it, but it wasn't my choice (customer is always right, right?).

I assume the idea here is that the car will be done and ready for him when he turns 16? Better add a TON of POR or Chassis Saver to that list. A 5 year old car in OH will rust out from under you. I'd hate to see how well a 25+ year old Mazda would hold up!

What part of OH are you in? My family is spread around the Cleveland/Akron area... I always hear about the OH rotaries but never see any when I'm up there!

thanks and you are correct. when all his friends are driving their stupid normal commuter cars, he'll be driving a car he loves. por15 will be part of his car, don't worry.lol. i live 1.5 hrs south of columbus, near kings island. we are scattered across oh,most live within an hour of the capital.

looks off to a solid start. i like these ground up restorations/builds. good luck with it. your son is lucky.

on a sidenote, i'm putting myself up for adoption as of today if you're interested. i come with Rx-7s needing TLC, parts and i'm already potty-trained.

there's some kind of electrical issue going on,the mice must've got into the rest of the wiring. i'm parting it locally and using some parts that i need for this one. i haven't decided on the engine direction to go in though. with the car tore down,my options are wide open.
